Counsel and Care focuses on choice and control for care home residents

The Dignity Challenge for Care Homes: Living well and maintaining choice and control for older people will hear from Ivan Lewis, Minister of State for Social Care, on ways in which the Dignity in Care campaign will be expanded to address the needs of care home residents.

Chaired by Richard Furze, Chief Executive of care home provider Friends of the Elderly, the conference will hear from a diverse range of speakers, who will look at regulation and compliance, improving care homes ratings and good practice.

Stephen Burke, Chief Executive of Counsel and Care, said: “This conference will contribute to the forthcoming green paper on the funding of adult social care, by addressing the key issues for care home providers and their staff.

“The ‘personalisation’ agenda must extend to include older people who live in care homes, and ensure that they fulfil their right to exercise choice and control over the care they receive.

“Each and every older person must be able to obtain the right care and the right deal, wherever they live.”
