Home Improvement Agencies in the limelight

19/05/2011
Home Improvement Agencies in the limelight Home Improvement Agencies (HIAs) help older and disabled people repair, improve or adapt their homes. Also commonly known as Staying Put or Care & Repair agencies, HIAs are supported by Government and local authorities, and are not-for-profit local organisations. Their main purpose is to help elderly people continue to live as independently as possible.

This is a time of rapid change in the way HIA services are provided, and hence the importance FirstStop attaches to trying to keep abreast of the changes and provide as accurate and up to date a picture of provision as we can. Our new directory contains detailed information on nearly 300 agencies in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The HIA directory is a part of a comprehensive Home Services Directory that FirstStop is building. This includes a broad range of services that can help older people remain living independently and comfortably in their own homes - from home helps to telecare, transport and time banks.
