Post Christmas Rush for Care

29/01/2011

The FirstStop advice line started the New Year with its usual  post Christmas rush of calls. At this time of year the rate of enquiries to the advice line can more than double.  Families of older people get together at Christmas and come to the realisation that their older relatives’ health has deteriorated and they may need care or their housing is inadequate.

At this difficult time it’s essential families seek advice. As local authorities tighten up on their spending many older people will miss out on important help and benefits unless they know what they are rightfully entitled to.

FirstStop advice and information combines care, housing, finance and rights advice, can deliver personal localised reports to older people and their families detailing their care and housing options as well as providing free guides on obtaining and paying for care and support at home or in a care setting. FirstStop aims to enable older people obtain and meet the cost of their chosen care and support for as long as they need it whilst also preserving their independence, dignity and right of choice.
