Mrs A lived in a bedsit. She suffers from severe arthritis and cooks in a shared kitchen before carrying it up to her room.  She is unsteady on her feet and often has to crawl upstairs, recently scalding her foot after dropping a hot drink.  Mrs A has no living space other than her bedroom.  The property is infested with cockroaches. She was very emotional and broke down during our meeting saying she has been intimidated by her landlord.

Sheltered housing applications were completed and submitted to the council and housing associations.  After two days, Mrs A was visited by CCHA, viewing and accepted a one bedroom ground floor flat.  Two weeks after our first meeting, Mrs A signed her tenancy agreement.  A budgeting loan and money from a trust fund was arranged, helping towards the cost of removals and furniture.   Mrs A was also referred for debt management help.

Age UK Croydon have launched a new Hospital Discharge and Reablement project in partnership with the British Red Cross.  Based in Croydon University Hospital, the project will provide support to people who are about to be or have just been discharged from hospital for up to 8 weeks.
