Our services
Our services include:
Our Housing Options Service, developed in partnership with FirstStop, is aimed at older people, their families and carers, who recognise that they are starting to find things difficult in their own homes and want to consider their options to meet their changing needs. These might include moving to more suitable accommodation or making changes to their existing property. The service is also aimed at advice, health and social care workers who support older people.
A case study
Mrs L, aged 79, had a few concerns about her husband. His health wasn’t very good as a result of having had a stroke in 2009. I referred him to Stroke Information Services.
More recently I met her again at our Resource Centre for Older People and she asked if I could research some names of local decorators as she had 2 rolls of wallpaper that needed hanging up in the bathroom. I used the Buy With Confidence website connected to the Trading Standards Agency and sent the information in the post to her.
The couple have also both been on a minibus trip to Dobbie’s Garden Centre organised by the Bassetlaw Community Minibus.
The latest request from Mrs L was for me to arrange a visit at home with her and her husband regarding a pension problem. After managing to speak to the relevant bodies on the phone and whilst I had the paperwork in front of me, I informed Mrs L of the changes regarding her pension & it also came to light at the same time that the couple were entitled to a considerable amount of refund from the District Council with regard to their Community Charge.
She said she would not have known where or who to contact regarding solving these issues. She said that The Bassetlaw Action Centre was an invaluable organisation and was singing its praises to her son every time she saw him.

Older people from across Bassetlaw came together recently to celebrate Older People’s Day at Retford Town Hall.
The event, organised by Bassetlaw Council and part of a national day of action, kicked-off with a calypso theme courtesy of Steel Pantastic.
Various community groups, voluntary organisations and local services were on hand to offer advice and information to visitors.
The afternoon was rounded off with line-dance courtesy of a local dance group.
